Mansueto Velasco, Jr.

Mansueto Velasco (born June 26, 1972), more popularly known as Onyok, is a Filipino amateur boxer from Bago City, Negros Occidental. He competed in the light flyweight division (48 kilograms) of the boxing competitions at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA. He settled for the silver medal after his controversial loss in the finals to Daniel Petrov of Bulgaria. Velasco and Filipino boxing fans claimed that he was robbed of the gold medal since the judges did not count the punches that he asserted were hitting his opponents. Prior to his Olympic stint, Velasco was also one of three Filipinos who won gold medals at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.

Velasco's silver medal is the second that the Philippines has won in the Olympic Games, after Anthony Villanueva's silver medal at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. He is also the second in his family to win an Olympic medal. His brother, Roel Velasco, was a bronze medalist in the light flyweight division of the boxing competitions at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. The two Velascos hold the distinction of being the only brothers in Philippine sports history who have won Olympic medals.

Mansueto Velasco is one of the 1996 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awardees for Sports.

After his successful amateur boxing career, Onyok Velasco joined the entertainment industry as a comedian and appeared in several movies and television shows and sitcoms.
